sensor bar question

Im new to The Wii U as I said in my other posts, so I have a question if I just use the Wii U gamepad and the Pro controler do I even need The Sensor bar hooked up if I dont use The Wii remotes?

I hooked it up anyway because I figured since it come with the system it must be needed but I thought Id ask here for sure,
