Hey everyone. You still doing good? That's great.
So, anyways, I have a little question about the system transfer process from a Nintendo Wii console to a Nintendo Wii U console, and it's actually rather a question about the SD Card rather than the transfer itself.
So, here's what's going on. I have a white Nintendo Wii console that's from like the second or third shipments of Wii consoles that went out way back in late 2006. It's been with me through good times and bad times. In more recent times though, sadly, something seems to be very wrong with it. It has a very hard time reading any game disc of any kind, and the left side (if the front of the Wii console is facing you) of the system gets really hot, even if it's just plugged in and turned off. Like, hot enough that it feels like it could melt something inside or burst into flames. I know that's not normal as there are two other Nintendo Wii consoles in my household, and the side of those systems never even get close to being that hot. Now, I do have a repair set-up for my white Wii console with Nintendo to see about fixing this problem, as it really only started after I started playing the dual-layer disc games such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime Trilogy. Like many Nintendo Wii consumers, I also have a number of Virtual Console and WiiWare titles downloaded to an SD Card that is inserted into the system. A 4GB SDHC Card to be exact. Because of this "massive overheating" problem, if you will, I really haven't been able to play much of anything using very many of my old save files. I do have a limited edition Mario Red Nintendo Wii console that I've been using in the meantime for all of my retail Wii games, and I've been transferring/copying what files I can for offline games such as Disney Epic Mickey and Donkey Kong Country Returns, but the games that I've put so much time into, such as Animal Crossing: City Folk and GoldenEye 007, I've had to create all new files for these titles. As such, of course a Nintendo Wii to Nintendo Wii U system transfer sounds like a very good idea for my white Wii console. This way, I would make sure that all of my save files and all of my downloaded content would be kept nice and safe, and I still could get the white Wii console repaired. Yes, I would be losing the ability to play games like Mario Kart Wii and GoldenEye 007 with the Nintendo Gamecube controller (my personal favorite), and the WiiConnect24 features no longer work with games such as Animal Crossing: City Folk and the Wii Speak Channel 2.0, but I'd rather lose those features then risk losing the save data that I've poured countless hours into. But, as it stands right now, I really only have one SD Card that I could use to perform the Nintendo Wii to Nintendo Wii U system transfer, and that is the SDHC Card that is inserted into my white Nintendo Wii console at the current time. So, here's what I would like to know.
As I stated, I have a number of WiiWare and Virtual Console titles saved on to my SDHC Card, as well as downloaded content for the likes of several Rock Band and Guitar Hero games. From what I gather, no matter what, these files I won't be able to use by just sticking my SDHC Card into my Wii U console while it is in Wii Mode. The save data for all of these games is kept in the Wii console itself, but the channels are kept on the SDHC Card. It's a bit annoying that I can't just stick it in and use it after the transfer, but the save data for these games appears to stay intact, so it's not a big deal. But, what I would like to know, is would I be able to still use this SDHC Card for the system transfer process as is? Or do I need an SD Card that is brand new for this to work correctly? The SDHC Card currently has something like 1.29 GB of open space.
Also, as a side note, as I also said, I get that the WiiConnect24 features have for whatever reason been removed (or at least disabled), so there's not a need for the address book on the Wii Menu anymore. But does anyone know if your friend rosters for online based games stay intacted as well? Like, after the transfer process is complete, could I just jump into a Team Conflict game using my old save file for GoldenEye 007 like I would be able to as if it was on the white Wii?
Thanks for reading everyone. Remember, asking a question never hurts.
