Wii U won't Sync.

I've tried to look around for an answer, but nothing comes up.

My Wii U when I press the Sync button won't go to the sync screen. My Wii U pad goes to the sync screen, but nothing comes on my t.v. for my Wii U.

As I watched video and read the guides, as you press the sync button it should just go straight to the screen.

is my Wii U faulty?
I bought it from Amazon, and it said new.
