Windwaker HD Save file

Recently when trying to download and install Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze I was getting an error saying there wasn't enough space on the system.  I deleted Windwaker HD to make enough room and was able to succcessfully install Donkey Kong.

I never deleted the save file for Windwaker HD from the system data management menu, only the game itself.

After checking the storage space on the system once Donkey Kong was installed it said I still had 10GB left, which was odd since it was telling me I didn't have that kind of space prior to installation of my new game, I figured I would go ahead and re-download Windwaker HD.

Once the install of Windwaker HD was completed I opened it out of curiosity to see if my save was still in tact, and to my disappointment just saw 3 slots on the start screen that said new game.  I checked the system data management menu and can still see my save file, but it looks like the game isn't recognizing it.

Is there a way to get the game to recognize the save file?

Or when deleting a game from the system do you lose the save data associated with it?  Seems odd this would be the case because I can still see the save file for the game.

Any assistance is appreciated, thanks.
