Can I use a wii u pro controller to play games in the wii mode of the wii u

          I am considering buying a pro controller for the wii u but I don't know if it will work on the wii side of the wii u.  What I want is to play virtual console games on the wii mode using the pro controller.  If I can't then I will just buy a wii pro controller. Hopefully you can help.
