New Wii U always shows No Signal using HDMI or Component cables

Bought a 32GB Wii U Mario Kart bundle, haven't been able to get it to work yet.

Connecting it to a 720p Samsung TV, set to the right input, gets No Signal from HDMI cable. Tried all the HDMI ports on the TV, checked the inputs, same thing. Tried with an HDMI cable I know works on that TV with my HTPC, still no signal.

Ordered a Wii component cable, tried that, still no signal.

Tried moving it to a 24" monitor that takes HDMI, still no signal

The power light is a solid blue, but I never get any signal to the TV.

Gamepad is fine, I can start the syncing process but I can't see any video so I can't enter the symbols.

Is there anything else I should try at this point? The only thing that comes to mind is that maybe out of the box it's trying to output a resolution that neither my TV or monitor could display, so I could try and find a 1080p TV to connect to first, but it seems insane that that would be necessary.

I can't get anybody on the phone from Nintendo's 800 number and my email to tech support hasn't received an acknowlegement. Is it worth sending for repairs or should I just return it and try again?
