Odd Wii Remote battery problem: level instantly drops to 1-2 bars, even with brand new batteries?

Okay, I am now having this problem that is completely confusing me and I want to have it fixed. I have quite a story to tell.

I first noticed this about a few days ago while I was playing Nintendo Land. My Wii remote batteries were running low and the controller died, even though it hadn't felt like I changed them a long time ago. Nonetheless, I swapped out the batteries for new ones, never used. It told me four bars, that was good. A couple minutes later I had opened up the home menu... the battery level dropped to one bar! Initially thinking maybe this was a bad batch of batteries, (they are Sunbeam super heavy duty, BTW) I switched them out for some Family Dollar alkalines I had. The same exact thing happened; instant drop to 1 bar. This isn't just one remote either; ALL THREE of my Wii Remotes are experiencing this issue. I decided to go out and get some rechargeables yesterday, charged them up fully... three bars, but hey, it was better than one. Today, the level dropped to two. Maybe it's me, but surely a pair of Rayovac rechargeables should last longer than that... I also tested the remotes on my Wii and the same things happened. Could someone maybe enlighten me as to why this happening?
