Hello! I'm having an issue with the legacy Wii Menu mode on my Wii U. The menu only appears to display the colors green and magenta. I placed the Wii U Gamepad in the picture to show the original colors.
I've tried replugging in my HDMI ports in case the connection was wonky, and I've also tried different HDMI ports on my TV. The color issue remains.
After doing some research on Google, I think the general consensus is:
- This is an issue introduced after a recent Wii U system update.
- This issue is unique to certain TV sets.
- This issue can be temporarily mitigated by changing the resolution of the system to 480p.
I didn't often use the Wii Menu legacy mode before, so I cannot verify 1 very reliably. However, I've gone and confirmed 2 and 3. A forum thread I saw said that the issue was specific to Sony TVs. I have a Sony TV. I tried plugging it into my computer monitor: the colors were fixed. Seems like the Wii U and the TV are not playing nicely.
I changed the resolution of the Wii U to 480p. It looks terrible on a large screen-TV, but the colors were fixed. Any other high-definition resolution results in the green/magenta issue.
Does anyone have any other solutions that are a little more practical or thorough? I hope Nintendo issues a fix. Seeing as this is an older non-smart TV, the only changes to break compatibility have been system update code on Nintendo's side.
