A few days after I bought my Wii U I discovered that the gamepad was dead. It wasn't taking a charge. I changed outlets. I removed the power cord from the cradle and plugged it in directly. I even removed the battery and waited as some posts online had suggested. When I finally called Nintendo, the helpful rep told me to unplug the power cord from the wall for 30 seconds. I told her all that I had done, and that I had already unplugged the cord and moved it to another plug, but I followed her instructions. 30 seconds later I replugged the power cord back in and voilá! My gamepad started taking a charge. Darnedest thing… I had a good laugh. Obviously, I had switched outlets in less than 30 seconds before, so the cord hadn't reset. But seriously? The POWER CORD needs resetting?
This has been a repeat problem with a simple fix for the past eight months, but I find it very irritating.
1) How common is this problem?
2) Can anyone explain to me what inside the power brick needs a reset? I've never seen anything like this in my forty years of electronics usage.
