Wii Mode: Classic Controller "double-taps", sometimes stops responding.

I'm playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl in Wii Mode on my WiiU, and I'm using a Classic Controller.  I'm noticing that, right from the main menu, my controller bugs out every now and again; basically, I press right, and it registers that I pressed right twice instantaneously.  I play the game, and I realize that it does this seemingly at random with any button I press - the controller responds fine enough, but usually when I jump, the game has me double-jump immediately, which tends to be detrimental to gameplay.  Further, oftentimes when I attempt to run, my character will run for a couple steps, stop dead in their tracks as if I slammed on the brakes, try to run again, and repeat the process.

I then try playing with a different Classic Controller; same thing.  I've tried the Wii Remote itself on other games, both disc and digital, and it seems to work fine.  The Classic Controllers worked just fine on my original Wii console the last I used them a month ago.

My belief is that the WiiU simply has trouble keeping a constant signal with my Classic Controller, and it "double-taps" to compensate.  Can anyone verify whether or not this is an isolated incident, and if there are any fixes besides "Buy updated versions of Nintendo's great products!!"?
