Cleaning the Wii u

Hi guys i wanted to ask how to clean the wii u. Usally i just get a dampened cloth and go side to side then dry it with the other side. Am i doing this right? Also my wii u somehow got a lot of scratches on it and I don't even touch the console. I never put the gamepad on it ethier could i remove these scratches? And to get the dust out of small areas and the vents i just use q tips is that ok? Thanks for your help if there is anything you can add or correct or anything i don't know about cleaning the wii u please tell
