Copying Save Data for eShop purchased games

I purchased Smash Bros from the Wii U eShop recently and downloaded it to an external USB drive. I'd like to back up JUST my save data to my local storage. Is that possible?

The only solution I found was posted below, but the process seems kind of backwards:
