I purchased a Wii U and completed the transfer of all Wii saves and virtual console games to my new system. Unfortunately, due to the small storage space on the Wii, most of my virtual console and Wii Ware games were on an SD card so I had to log on to the eshop from my Wii U and redownload many games that I had purchaed on the Wii. Now comes the problem...It is documented in other forums and gaming news sites that Lost Winds 2 is the only known game that cannot be redownloaded to the Wii U for technical reasons. I own this game and it is unfortunate that I cannot redownload, however I have a much greater issue. It appears that the following titles cannot be downloaded as well:
Actraiser, Castlevania, Contra 3: Alien Wars, Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2, Excitebike, F-Zero, F-Zero X, Galaga, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart 64, Mega Man X, Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack.
This is an incomplete list as I have 9 more pages of download history to attempt to recover - I expect to have issues with 1-2/ 10 games on each of the remaining pages of download history based on the average thus far. The games appear to be downloading fine and I even receive the "Download Successful" message at the end of the download. However, when I go back to the Wii dashboard within the Wii U console, none of the aforementioned games show up as a "Wii channel". If I click on Wii storage management and review Wii Channels for the game data, there is just an image of a question mark and the data is taking up physical storage on the unit. What should be the game title under the image is also a series of question marks.
If anyone is having the same problem or knows how to fix - I would love to hear what the solution is or if Nintendo is working on a fix. This should be considered a "Buyer Beware" message for Nintendo fans that have spent a lot of money on virtual console games hoping that they can seamlessly transition to the Wii U upgrade.
FYI, on top of this I had to send my Wii U in for repair the day after Christmas since it would not read any of my Wii disc based games. I did receive the console after 2 weeks and it does read my Wii game discs now but it was really disappointing to my 3 kids on Christmas morning. I will not even speak of the day-1 update that took most of the day to download on a wired connection.
I have been a Nintendo fan for almost 30 years and have supported every console that they have put out in the US - needless to say, I am losing faith each day that passes and if Nintendo does not get their act together and support their loyal customers, this will be the last console I will ever buy from them.
