I have a Mitsubishi WS-55809 rear projection TV. The TV is only capable of outputting in 480i/p and 1080i (480p and 1080i are done through standard component in YPbPr. This TV came before the advent of HDMI cables and such). I have issues when I set the WiiU to display in 1080i. Here are a few examples:
- When shifting from menu to menu (for example, the main menu to the settings menu), the WiiU appears to disconnect from my TV (blank screen) and comes back once the menu has loaded. This applies to all menus on the system.
- Using the Nintendo TVii, the TV screen has an unstable picture, with jitter in the middle of the screen causing distortion, and the WiiU rapidly appears to lose and regain connection to the TV.
- The main menu's Mii Plaza has distorted lines that appear towards the bottom row of games on my screen that are attached to the floating word bubbles. They stretch across the entire screen, horizontally, and exist only on the TV (meaning, if I switch the display from the TV to the WiiU Game Pad, the lines disappear).
(I can provide pictures/video if needed.)
I'd rather have the WiiU in 1080i for quality's sake, but I'm not comfortable with the fact that the WiiU appears to disconnect so frequently, as well as the general distortion problems. These problems do go away when setting the WiiU in 480p or 480i. I have tried two different component cables, both of which work correctly on a different TV (displaying all resolutions correctly). The cables are directly connected into my TV, and not connected through any sort of pass through device.
I should note that the Mitsubishi TV is capable of displaying in RGB instead of YPbPr, but I do have it set correctly to only display in YPbPr. My Xbox 360 displays perfectly fine in 1080i, as does my original Xbox.
Any idea what's wrong here? Is it something with my TV, or with the WiiU? If there are any details that would be helpful in knowing that I missed here, please let me know.
