Audio but no video

If I turn on the U before I have set the TV input (for example if I was playing AC3 remotely), and then switch the TV to the right input the TV is just a black screen. It still plays audio and the audio is correct, but there is no video displayed. The TV is telling me that it is still receiving a 1080p signal. The only way I can fix this is to have the TV set to the Wii U input, then shut down and restart the U. It works fine if the input is set before the U is turned on, but there have been several occasions when I have turned on the U to go to miiverse, web browse, or play AC3 remotely and then wanted to switch to using the TV to play a game. Usually this is just a nuisance, but when I want to switch from remote play for AC3 to playing on the TV I have to stop playing altogether and restart. Is this a glitch that needs to be addressed in the next update or is there a setting somewhere that I've mistakenly selected?

I am using the deluxe version with HDMI input.

Any help appreciated.

Oh, I almost forgot. I know it isn't the TV because doing the same thing with other devices using HDMI inputs doesn't have the same outcome. DVD player, Computer, etc, all show audio and video even if they are turned on before the TV input is selected.
