Super Mario U missing frames glitch

Over the last couple of days while we are playing SMU, the game pad will pause for 1 or 2 seconds and then catch up to the play on the tv. It is driving me crazy. Makes it hard to take out the enemy or place blocks and I have killed Mario and Luigi a few times now, because I can't do my job . Any insight? TIA
