Virtual Console Discount System Transfer Requirement

When I first learned that you would be able to purchase virtual console titles you previously bought for the Wii on the WiiU for a discounted price I was excited.  Not having to pay full price for a digital version of the game again appeared to be a fair and thought out move by Nintendo.

However, I no longer believe that.  In order to receive the discount, you must transfer you system data from your Wii to your WiiU.  Now, I own a Wii, have for many years, and still plan on using it.  I also have purchased a WiiU.  I have my Wii on one TV, my WiiU on another.  I have absolutely no desire to transfer my system data to my WiiU and lose everything I have on my Wii.  Yet, in order to receive this discount I have to do that.

I don't understand.  I purchased the virtual console game and it's on my Wii.  Why can't I leave my virtual console games on my Wii and receive the discount on the WiiU?  Why would I want to limit my virtual console titles to one of my systems in my home when I could have them on two?  Is this why Nintendo doesn't allow this?  Do they not want me to get a discount to put a virtual console game I purchased on a second system?

This kind of reasoning is flawed in my opnion.  I refuse to pay full price for the same exact game downloaded on a second system.  I would gladly have paid the discounted price to do that.  I also don't think I would pay the extra $1 or $1.50 just to "upgrade" it so I play it on my gamepad controller.  And, I don't think you can "beat the system" and profit by having your virutal console games on your Wii and WiiU.  It's not like I can give these games to my friend or something.  These digital versions are in my home and staying in my home.  How about throwing a bone to your loyal Nintendo fan base?

I still own many games on their original systems.  I purchased several virtual console titles on the Wii and have enjoyed them as well.  I would also love to have Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and Final Fantasy virtual console games on my WiiU, but I'm not paying full price....AGAIN.

My question to Nintendo is simply why?  Why do you have to do a data transfer from your Wii to your WiiU to get the discount?
