Wii U not reading Wii discs

Hi, I have a problem with my Wii U and I don't know if it's always had this.

First of all, I bought it used, maybe around a year after it came out. I think it used to be able to read Wii games since it came with a few, but I can't confirm this. Anyways, my Wii U has trouble reading Wii discs. It can read Wii U games just fine, but whenever I go to the Wii Menu and put in a Wii disc, they all say they're unreadable.

Few things to note:

  • Yes, I am going to the Wii Menu to play my Wii games. No, they still do not work.
  • I have transfered data from my Wii to my Wii U, including virtual console games. The virtual console games work just fine, and the Wii U still has all the memory from my Wii games.
  • I have tested a few of my discs in my regular Wii, and they work fine.
  • My sensor bar works fine on my Wii U as well.

So what would be wrong with my Wii U? Should I take it in for repair, or is there something I can do?

Super Mario Galaxy 2 crashes Wii U when loaded from USB drive

Pretty much what the topic says. I bought Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the eShop, it downloaded to my USB hard drive, and when I try to load the game here's what happens:

- Screen goes black.

- Gamepad shows white Wii logo briefly, like it does when you run Wii Mode

- After ~10 seconds, the external hard drive clicks off.

- After 2-3 minutes, the Wii U reboots.

I can fix the problem by moving the game to the System Memory, and from there it loads just fine. But the game is 1.4GB, and my system memory is already pretty close to full. Is there any way to fix this? I'd like to buy more Wii games when they become available, but not if I can only run them off the system memory.

Before anyone says "your external hard drive is broken", I have plenty of other Wii U retail, Wii U download only, and Virtual Console games on there now, and they all load just fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

Wii games not running off of external storage

Myself and several others have had issues running Wii games on external hard drives. Super Mario Galaxy 2, Punch Out, and now Metroid Prime Trilogy won't run off of external storage.

If I move them to the internal storage then it runs fine. If I move it to external storage then it doesn't work. My hard drive is one of the recommended models, a 1TB Western Digital. It has worked fine for everything else I've downloaded, roughly $800 worth of games from multiple emulated platforms.

Hopefully this gets resolved soon.

Possible overheating issue

Over the past week, my wii u has been shutting off randomly and begins blinking with a red flashing light. Some days i would be able to play a game upwards to 3-4 hours at a time without an issue and other instances it would shut off within 5-10 minutes from startup. I would touch the wii u after it shuts down to find that it is alot hotter than its probably suppossed to be. the thing i tried to do was vacuum out the fan and the two air vents and to apply compressed air to these components . While for a while i thought this solved the issue, i recently downloaded a game from the eshop and right when i started it,the issue resurfaced. Is there anyway to fix this problem or is my wii u dead? Thanks in advance

I tried to buy a game for kid using eshop with my debit card, When I finished I received a message with an error, I thought the error happened because of my debit card.

After a few minutes I received the SMS from my bank with the msg

"Your current acc. is debited with USD 39.99 at NINTENDO DIGITAL using debit card ending 1061. Available balance is xxxx . for queries call #####"

I don't have the game, what should I do?

TIA.

Late Wii U System Transfer Question

I've been thinking about doing a Wii to Wii U system transfer but I already have some digital games on my Wii U.  None of my Wii U digital games are in Wii Mode but I'm worried that if I do a system transfer to get my old Wii Virtual Console games on the Wii U, the games I do have on there now like Fire Emblem and Pushmo World will be removed.  Has anyone done this and how did it turn out?

I was wondering did nintendo extend the Deluxe Digital Promotion or what because I have purchased alot of games here in january from the eshop but I haven't gotten any more points on the Deluxe Digital Promotion website? Also if it has ended does anyone know what will happen to the points if you don't have 500 points will we receive anything or will they just be wasted?

Plus here is what they have on the Deluxe Digital Promotion website.

The Deluxe Digital Promotion will be discontinued on April 1, 2015. Please exchange your points for an activation code by March 31, 2015. Activation codes must be redeemed in the Nintendo eShop by June 30, 2015.

Fit Meter won't turn on (battery?)

Hello,

My Fit Meter will not turn on when I hold down the center button.

I believe my battery is dead as I bought my fit meter soon after it was released, Novemer 1st or 2nd, 2013 (with the Wii Fit U promo).

Does anybody know where to get a new battery?

Thanks,

Is it OK to put the Fit Meter in my pocket?

According to the advertising and the manual, it is recommended to attatch the Fit Meter on one's waist.

However, my trousers are too thick that I cannot clip my Fit Meter onto it, so I have to put it into the pocket. But will it lead to inaccurate measurements of steps and altitude?  I really want to get real measurements on my Fit Meter and do not want to cheat myself. Thank you.

I just started using the folders on the Wii U menu and now I have 3 blank pages where my games used to be and I have no idea how to get rid of or can you even get rid of them?  Anyone know if we can clean the Wii U menu (home page or whatever it's called) up?

constant error codes connecting to internet on wii-u

for the last couple weeks, basically since Jan 1,  we have been having trouble connecting to the WII U CHAT,  before that it was working fine and we were also able to play Mario Kart 8,  that doesn't always connect now either.  I have tried reseting all my routers (4 of them) and the modem.  I have tried each router with the Wii-U and get the same problem.  the Wii-U connects to the internet and I can go to web pages and other stuff but not the game or chat.

I know the answer I am going to get is "what is the error code?"  "have you called Nintendo?"    answers are NO and my time is worth more than continually calling a phone number to talk to someone for an hour that doesn't have any other clue as to how to fix the problem than I do    so don't waste our time posting those answers ONE-OF-THREE

Just bought a Wii U, trying to play Chrono Trigger on the Gamepad? o.O

Hello, I just bough a Wii U today, and I'm having some problems, hopefully someone on the boards can help me. =)

This is the first Nintendo device I've owned since my SNES. I've installed and updated it, created an account and bought a Wiimote. Logged in to the old Wii interface and bought Chrono Trigger. But it won't let me run the game without buying a third control (a classic).

I'm trying to transfer this game (Chrono Trigger) from the Wii interface to the Wii U interface so I can play it with my Gamepad. But the only transfer avalible is if I have an SD Card and actually own a Wii. I'm assuming I'm missing something here. =/

I'd appreciate any and all help you can give me. =D

Question about Flash Drive storage

$

Hi

So, I had a question about using a flash drive.

I get that it's been stated that the recommended external storage for the wii-u is a USB ext HD with a power source but is there any problems with using a flash drive (for ONLY storing purposes)? And by that I mean,  I download a game I would play in the future, slap in a flash-drive (do all that formatting stuff), throw the game on the stick, plug out the drive and delete the game off the wii-u. And when I'm ready for it, plug it in, transfer back to the wii-u, and plug out.

I understand that this obviously won't be ideal if you continuously transfer games (if you play numerous games at the same time) but I like to play a game straight through then remove it when i complete it, would it work if i keep data transfer strictly to a minimum?

Thanks

Wii mode booting improperly

Hey,

I just bought super mario galaxy on disc and galaxy 2 and metroid prime trilogy through the eshop. However the only way I can get the proper RGB settings is to manually change the output of my Wii U to 480p which is an unnecessary and aggravating step. I have tried connecting directly to my tv, through my receiver with the hdmi cable provided by nintendo and a different hdmi cable and still receive the same results. I would like to not have to modify the settings each time I decide I want to boot my wii mode up on my wii u. The whole idea of that is so I dont have to go through switching things around in order to use the old system correct?

Here is a photo of what the wii mode looks likeIMG_1684.JPG

I have my Wii U console hooked up with Wii component cables set to 1080p, and I was wondering are there anyway to get rid of the black borders on the sides of VC games in Wii mode? Wii game disc work just fine full screen and everything.

Punch Out downloaded from eshop crashing Wii U

I downloaded Punch Out from the eshop to my Seagate Expansion 2TB 3.5 inch external hard drive with external power. The hard drive is on the compatible list, and it works flawlessly with all other eshop and full retail game downloads.

When I try to load Punch Out, the TV screen goes black, the gamepad goes black, and the Wiimote turns off. I have to pull the power cord to get the Wii U to reset, as no buttons work other than eject?

This is doing the exact same thing while trying to boot up Super Mario Galaxy that I downloaded last week. When I moved the files to the Wii U hard drive everything boots up just fine.

Has anyone else run in to these problems?

Does anyone know if Nintendo is actively trying to fix this.

Hard Drive not being recognized

Hello,

I have a 1 TB WD Passport Hard Drive.

Today, I was attempting to format my hard drive (Settings > Data Management > Format USB Storage Device) so I can use it on my Wii U

(for Metroid Prime Trilogy).

It won't stop saying "Checking USB Storage Device" even after a very long time. I tried using all four USB ports on the Wii U and got the same result.

Does anyone know how to resolve this? And does anyone know how long it usually takes for the Wii U to check the USB storge device?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I know I might have to transfer my other games to my drive, and Metroid Prime Trilogy to my system because of the problems I have been hearing.

I can't find my download code (Club Nintendo)

$

Not even going to bother saying how annoying this has been for me, because I'm sure everyone trying to get on to Club Nintendo in the past 24 hours knows.

So I managed to get 200 coins, and I used it on Golden Sun. However, when I was about to get the download code, my internet crashed. 10 minutes later, I got back online, and I had only 10 coins left, meaning I had purchased Golden Sun. But I can't find the code anywhere! It seems I've spent my codes on nothing? What can I do to solve this?
