What External Storage Devices Can Be Used With Wii U?
The support page What External Storage Devices Can Be Used With Wii U? must be updated. Please list what external storage devices that you know can be used with the Wii U, and hopefully Nintendo will research and add them to list.
Citizens of Earth still not available for purchase?
CItizens of Earth has a January 20th release date. It's January 20th now. I could understand not getting it at midnight, but it's 9:00 AM where I am. I thought it's be available by now. What's the holdup?
Nintendo Land disc not working
Today I tried to play Nintendo Land on my Wii U and when as soon as I put the game in, My TV screen turns black. it's never been like this before and doesn't show the "Disc not read". What do I do?
GamePad Charger
The first Wii U GamePad charger I had which came with the console stopped working for some reason after quite some time. I then bought a third party one off the internet, and now it's stopped working too. The second one stopped working much sooner than the first one. Is this normal for GamePad chargers? Whenever I put either charger away, I twist up the cords to save room. Is that what made them stop working?
Ocarina of Time, Screen Going Black
Short version - While playing Ocarina of Time, every couple minutes, the screen will random go black for a few seconds, and then resume normally. What can I do to fix it?
Long version - In Wii Mode, on my Wii U, I was trying to play Ocarina of Time. However, every now and then, the screen would seem to randomly go black for a few seconds, and then continue on. At first, I thought it had something to do with either pressing the Home button and re-entering the game, or simply going into the item menu in-game, but I could not replicate the problem at will. I've played several Wii U games, Wii U VC games, and Wii Mode VC games, all with no problems, yet Ocarina of Time specifically gives me this problem. Here's what I've tried so far.
- Continue playing the game after the problem goes away. This results in the problem repeating every couple minutes.
- Reboot the Wii U. No change.
- Change TVs. No change.
- Switched from HDMI cable to component cable. The same problem happens again.
Thanks for your help.
Can't play Virtual Console games from SD card
So while on my wii u, I go into Wii mode after doing the system transfer months ago to play some games I downloaded. However, I can't access, move, or do anything with the games currently on my SD card. Can someone help me out here? Is there a step I missed? Am I able to play these games on my wii u?
Pro Controller question...
I own a North American Wii U. However, due to various complications in my life, I am now living in the UK.
I know all Wii U games are region locked, but can I buy a European Pro Controller and use it on a North American system? And Amiibo?
SOLVED-- WIIU menu intermittently doesn't come up
I literally searched for weeks on how to solve this, so I just wanted to share my solution in case I'm not alone with this issue. It was actually a very simple fix.
The problem: Whenever I turned on my Wii U, whether from the gamepad or the console, the gamepad would enter the menu while the television showed no signal. The console would be "on" with the power light on and the disk moving, but nothing would come up. When I tried to start a piece of software from the gamepad, it would tell me that it was too far away from the console to function.
After powering down the gamepad and the console sepparately, it would then turn on correctly on the second attempt. It was an intermittent issue that did not really stop the functionality of the WII U beyond the first start up, but it was quite frustrating.
TLDR; The gamepad and the console turned on, but there was no signal to the TV. Gamepad could not connect to the Console. everything was fine after restarting.
The Solution: Go to System Settings from the WII U menu. Scroll right until you find the Power Settings, near the end of the menu. The top most items should be Auto Power-Down, and Standby Functions. Disable both of these items.
The Auto Power-Down Function allows the system to "sleep" after being idle for some times
The Standby Function allows the console to perform certain operations after being powered down. This includes the Quick Start Menu that pops up on the gamepad as the console is still in the process of booting up.
I am unsure which of these functions is the true culprit. It could be both, it could be just one, or it could even be just a single Standby Function that is affected by turning them all off. I plan to update this thread with a more definitive solution, but I can tell you with great certainty that one of these settings is the culprit. I do not want to declare one solution to be THE solution until I have been able to do more testing.
I hope this helps someone! This issue was driving me up the wall.
Wii U won't work with External Hard Drive
Hi guys, I recently got an external hard drive for my Wii U. It was one of the recommended harddrives from Nintendo, the Seagate Expansion 1 TB. Though it was a USB 3.0 and did not have it's own power source, I needed a USB Y Cable for it to run. The thing is, whenever I try to turn on my Wii U with the harddrive connected, with or without the y cable, it wont turn on. It will start to power up for a little bit and then the gamepad will say it can't connect to the Wii U and there will be no more sound from the Wii U. Whenever I unplug the harddrive, it is fine, so I know it's got something to do with the hard drive. What should I do? I will probably delete all data from it with my computer and then plug it back in, though I can't do that now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lots of error codes, Should I format?
Hello everyone!
So, Ive owned my Wii U 32gb unit for less than 30 days and the first week was a blast, everything worked perfectly. I downloaded th eusual media faire (youtube, netflix, hulu, etc) and a few demos, no problem. Long story short, I decided to delete a media app (Crunchyroll) from my wii u system, after that, My internet connection has been getting worse and worse. Eshop does not load, Miiverse loads 50% of the time, Netflix is slow but loads, internet browser is slow, Hulu and Youtube run perfectly. Passes the internet connection test every time!
I get the following error codes (more depending on what mood my wii u is in):
103-1601
103-1602
103-1603
103-1604
111-9000
111-9001
103-2101
111-1006
105-1029
Tried looking up the codes on support.nintendo.com , rebooted my router, changed the router settings, I called Nintendo customer service and had them take remote control of my computer and fiddle with my router settings. Nothing seems to be working.
Is my Wii U borked? Should I reformat/do a factory reset? Should I just exchange it for anothe runit at this point? Is anyone else in my boat??
Anyone has a manual for Fit meter?
I do not have one since it was purchased pre-owned. A manual scan or pictures of the entire manual will be appreciated.
I cannot find the manual , nor support pages about the Fit meter on Nintendo support...

wiiu can't find my wifi network and gives error code
My wiiu was working fine and then lost my wifi network. It can't find it when I search for connections and manually entering info fails as well. I get an error code 103-1601, which doesn't come up with anything when I search for it in the support site.
Everything else in my home works with the wifi just fine, xbox, multiple pc's, laptops, and phones. Nothing changed in my setup but the wiiu suddenly can't connect to the internet.
help would be appreciated.

Wii U keeps freezing
I just purchased the Wii U MK8 bundle last Tuesday and to my dismay I've been encountering an issue where the console constantly freezes. Once the console freezes it starts a loud buzzing noise then just hangs up.
How it has frozen:
- It has freezes frequently while playing MK8, I've barely been able to make it through a grand prix.
- It first started freezing while play Wind Waker, the free game that I chose when I registered the bundle. Note that this is a digital game
- Freezes during the menu
- Freezes seem to happen in more rapidly after rebooting from a freeze. (i.e. MK8 froze, reboot the system, Wii U freezes at the main menu)
Things I've tried:
- Disconnecting from Internet: I read in a few forums that this was an issue in the past that for some reason the network was causing the issue, but this does not solve the problem
- Manually set static IP: along the same lines as the above solution attempt
- Made sure the disk was clean
- Unplugged and re-plugged in after 20 seconds
- Disabled Miiverse connectivity
I was wondering if there are any other things that I could try.
Also as a last note; when I was playing Wind Waker, my router needed to be reset as it was causing issues with my girlfriends iPhone, as soon as I unplugged the router the Wii U froze and I had to hard reset the system. So I’m not sure but I feel that this may be wifi related.
Wii U Wii Mode does not fill up widescreen
Wii Mode on my Wii U does not fill out wide screen properly. I have an HDMI cable hooked up and it looks lovely on the Wii U half of the system, but if I switch to the Wii Mode menu, it is shrunk down to what looks like 4:3. A large chunk of my TV on the left and right side is unused, beyond what I am able to "zoom" to fix using the TV remote. In addition, everything looks a bit scrunched in compared to the Wii Mode display on the gamepad which is comfortably wide. It is hard to be objective but the fonts all look shrunken and on the TV and correct on the Gamepad.
Is this normal?
