Hi there.
I've been having a pretty unlucky day with my Wii U. I brought my Wii U along to my father's house and had trouble with the TVs not recognising the console through the HDMI cord (it had worked previously on these TVs, and had been working the day before on the TV at my mother's house). Seemed to be a pretty common problem but I was unable to find much information about it on the net, with most people seeming to send it away to be fixed.
Anyway, in my several hours of frustration I did a factory reset of the console. Most of my games are physical, but I'd downloaded Xenoblade Chronicles a while ago, which had been on the 60gb external hard drive I had connected to my Wii U. All of my save data/downloaded content was also on the hard drive. Before we took the console to be looked at, I thought I'd double check that I could actually access the games on the hard drive, but it only gave me the option to reformat it. I did some reading and was well aware that a hard drive could only be formatted to be used on one console, but I'd assumed that resetting the Wii U wouldn't affect that, since it's still the same console.
So it seems as though, even if I can get the Wii U to work through HDMI again, I've lost all my saves. I wouldn't particularly mind, usually, since I can redownload the games themselves, but the 90+ hours I put into Xenoblade and all my save data from all my other games seem to be gone. Which is extremely frustrating.
I was wondering if I'm just missing something (I really hope I am) and the hard drive is still somehow compatible and I'm just stupid, or whether I really have lost everything. And if so, if there's any way for that to be recovered or for my console to be returned to the same way it was before so they're still compatible. I'd really rather not have to replay through another 90 hours of Xenoblade just to see the ending.
Any information at all would be a massive help. I'm holding out on sending the Wii U away until I can find out whether or not my saves are a lost cause.
Thanks bunches in advance!!
